Episode 12 - Grease Is Still The Word With Barry Pearl Part 2

During the second part of his conversation with “Grease” star Barry Pearl, host Tony Miros gets the scoop about what it was like working with Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta on the set, the difficulties in filming the musical numbers like “Summer Nights,” the day a cast member fainted while they were filming the dance contest sequence in a sweltering school gym, his thoughts about the new Paramount Plus series “Grease: The Rise of The Pink Ladies” and how he and the rest of the cast are preparing to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the release of the highest grossing movie musical of all time – “Grease”!  

BARRY PEARL

 

Actor, director, producer and teacher, Barry Pearl is best known for his role as "Doody", one of the three supporting T-Birds, in the 1978 film version of “Grease.”

 

He made his Broadway debut in 1961 as Randolph MacAfee in the original production of “Bye Bye Birdie”. He went on to do the National Tour and Vegas companies of the show. Other stage productions include: the original Broadway company of “Oliver!”, the first National Tour of “Grease,” in which he played Sonny and John Travolta played Doody, “Guys And Dolls,” Fiddle On The Roof,” and many others. Other Broadway credits include  “A Teaspoon Every Four Hours” in 1969, “The Producers” in 2005, “Lenny's Back” in 2008 and “Baby It's You!” in 2011. ”


He has been a TV series regular on “C.P.O Sharkey” (starring Don Rickles), “The New Love American Style” and “Superior Court,” as well as having guest starred on such TV shows as “Criminal Minds,” :House,” “ER,” “Miss Match,” “Beverly Hills 90210,” “Days of Our Lives,” and “The Amanda Show,” to name a few.


Some of his other film credits include: “Avenging Angel,” “Dutch Treat,” and “My Favorite Martian” with Christopher Lloyd and Daryl Hannah. In 2012 he starred in the Lionsgate release “The Newest Pledge.” He also starred as "Arnold" in the national tour of “Happy Days - A New Musical.” In 2014, he was part of the series “Summer with Cimorelli.” He also had a cameo as Mr. Weaver in the “Grease: Live” television special on FOX in 2016.

 

He played "Professor Tinkerputt" in the primetime special “Barney's Imagination Island” and the US tour of “Barney's Big Surprise,” a stage production based on the popular TV show as well as a video of the same name. He also starred in an episode of Disney Channel's “Even Stevens.”

 

During the summers he teaches film arts all across the US to the special needs community with Joey Travolta's Inclusion Film Company.

 

Barry is currently directing “Footloose: The Musical” playing at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center from April 22 - May 14 2023.
